  • Burgin Independent School Receives Grant for $10,500 from the Corning Foundation
Superintendent Will Begley, Shawn Markham Corning Incorporated, Principal Chris LeMonds
  • Currently, all 6th through 12th graders in the Burgin Independent Schools has a personal electronic device. This 1 to 1 initiative
implemented several years ago and is a contributing factor to the success of the school. To go along with this initiative, all K-5
classrooms have 4 iPads and 4 desktops computers.

Recently, the Corning Incorporated Foundation awarded a grant for $10,500 for the Burgin Schools to take this a step further.
The grant, along with allocated Board funds, will be used to immediately purchase nineteen 13” Apple MacBook Airs,
nineteen 65” TVs and nineteen Apple TVs for the high school, middle school and elective teachers. Then in nine months
over the summer, the district will purchase twenty-one 13” Apple MacBook Airs, nine 65” TVs and nine Apple TVs for the
elementary school and the rest of the teachers.

Principal Chris LeMonds states, “For several years our teachers have sacrificed to make sure our students were 1 to 1 with
personal devices and we now get to give the teachers the technology to match. We will be able to integrate more 21st century
learning in the classroom.” Superintendent Will Begley adds, “These Apple devices will enable our teachers to deliver the
standards of their curriculum in a unique way. Many will use the tools in the Google platform. Our faculty is very
appreciative of the Corning Foundation and our school Board for supporting this initiative.”

The Corning Incorporated Foundation is a charitable
    contributions organization established by Corning
Incorporated in 1952. Through leadership and
collaboration, the Foundation strives to foster vibrant,
enriching, and supportive Corning communities. The
Foundation focuses on education, human services,
culture, and volunteerism in Corning business locations.

  • Test Scores Photo

Burgin Test Scores Show Student Success and Growth

Unbridled Learning test results were released this week, placing Burgin Independent Schools as one of the top districts in the state, with marked growth in middle and high school indices.

The district's middle and high schools made exceptional growth, with the high school increasing their overall index from a 71 to a 79.1 and the middle school increasing their overall index score from 61.2 to 71.5. The overall District index remained a 75 for the second year in a row.

Due to statewide accountability transitions, terminology for the year has shifted. Districts will soon be ranked on a five-star system of accountability to be rolled out in the 2018-19 school year. Burgin's scores from the 2016-17 school year have accelerated the district and placed it in the ranks of what would be labeled "Distinguished," the highest category for districts and schools.
